Westcott Street Cultural Fair Sunday, September 26, 2021

After canceling the fair in 2020,  the Westcott Street Cultural Fair (WSCF) will take place on Sunday, September 26, 2021, from Noon-6:30 p.m., along the 500 block of Westcott St. and several side streets.

As an outdoor event with plenty of space and people in motion, the WSCF has the best conditions possible for a larger gathering that is safe. However, we still ask that everyone stay COVID-aware at all times. In keeping with all current policies and recommendations, please do the following: Maintain spacing appropriate to the situation.  Wear a mask whenever going indoors, whether vaccinated or not. Wear a mask outdoors whenever spacing is difficult, especially if you are unvaccinated.

With six stages, the WSCF offers an impressive lineup for fans of local music and dance.   Performances include Sammy Award winning rock, blues, and funk groups; multicultural dance groups, and belly dancing. The children’s stage features magicians; storytellers, musicians, and more.

More than 120 booths will line the streets. Many feature vendors of handmade items including jewelry, pottery, clothing, candles, soaps, and more. Others host non-profit groups, government agencies and others who provide information and advocate for important issues. The list of booths and their locations are at  https://westcottstreetfair.org/info.html

The mission of the WSCF is to promote a strong sense of community among the diverse people who live and work in the Westcott neighborhood. A powerful heart beats in the Westcott community, and we can’t wait to see that demonstrated when the streets are filled once again.

“This is my favorite city festival of all!” says neighborhood resident Paul Otteson. “It’s rich with color, energy, and cool people, and there are amazing performances wherever you turn.”

More than thirty area businesses and organizations help fund the WSCF. Our top 2021 supporters include our Stage Sponsors — NY State of Health, Rent from Ben, Rise N Shine Diner — and our Westcott Wizards — Alto Cinco, Boom Babies, and University Hill Realty. The WSCF also relies on grant, sponsorship, and other support from the City of Syracuse, CNY Arts, Onondaga County, Syracuse University, and the Westcott Community Center.

The emphasis of the portrait should be on identity and cultural background/ancestry, but they encourage everyone to delve into any part of themselves or the person they are drawn to portraying. This is a free workshop with limited space available. We ask that you attend both sessions. Art supplies will be provided and you are welcome to also bring your own.
