WCNY’s Entertainment Academy Opens Applications for Fall Session

WCNY Entertainment Academy

WCNY, Central New York’s public communications organization, is thrilled to announce that applications are now open for the fall session of WCNY’s Entertainment Academy, with classes scheduled to start on Aug. 22.

Three times a year, WCNY’s Entertainment Academy offers a fourteen-week training program in the TV and film production trades. The Academy provides training for the next generation of television and film production engineers, electricians, set designers, sound mixers, and camera operators to help support the growing entertainment industry in Central New York.

The program also creates a pathway for job placements through local unions, including I.A.T.S.E. Local 52 Motion Picture Studio Mechanics which provides craft specialists to serve as instructors, offering a real-world baseline of knowledge and industry-specific skills.

WCNY’s Entertainment Academy Highlights:

• Ages 25-39 are invited to apply

• Training sessions take place on Thursdays and Fridays, 4-8 p.m., and Saturdays 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

• Become trades certified in just 14 weeks!

o Including OSHA and Aerial Lift certifications

• Pathway to union membership and excellent benefits

• Convenient Schedule

• Job-ready upon course completion

• Earn up to $45 per hour

• Assistance with job placement

Join us for a two-part workshop with exhibiting artist Sofía Luz Pérez and Syracuse artist Cayetano Valenzuela. In this workshop, Cayetano Valenzuela and Sofía Luz Pérez will share their own practices and processes in making a portrait/self-portrait and ask participants to create a portrait or self-portrait. The emphasis of the portrait should be on identity and cultural background/ancestry, but they encourage everyone to delve into any part of themselves or the person they are drawn to portraying. This is a free workshop with limited space available. We ask that you attend both sessions. Art supplies will be provided and you are welcome to also bring your own.
