It will be an afternoon of hot fun in the summertime when The Family Stone brings the classic soul music of Sly and the Family Stone to the Chevy Court stage at the Great New York State Fair at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, Acting Director Troy Waffner announced.
Sly and the Family Stone was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, and on its website, the Rock Hall sums up the group this way: “Rock’s first integrated, multi-gender band became funky Pied Pipers to the Woodstock Generation, synthesizing rock, soul, R&B, funk and psychedelia into danceable, message-laden, high-energy music.
In promoting their gospel of tolerance and celebration of differences, Sly and the Family Stone brought disparate audiences together…”Founding members of the soul group Jerry Martini and Greg Errico are keeping the band’s music alive. They’ll play hits such as “Thank You (Falettin Me Be Mice Elf Agin),” “Everyday People,” and “Dance to the Music.”On vocals is Phunne Stone, who goes by Ray Syl. She’s the daughter of two of the band’s other founders, Sly Stone and trumpeter Cynthia Robinson.

This is music for a party and music that brings people together. I hope everyone will come see this fantastic group because their message of peace and love has never been more relevant,” said Waffner.
The show takes place on the first of two Three Dollar Thursdays, when admission is just $3.
