APRIL ART EXHIBIT:
Art Exhibit by John O’Neil Heard
Mr. Heard has been an artist in the Syracuse area for over 20 years and a musician for over 30 years. His medium is working with recycled materials such as wooden cigar boxes and shipping tubes. Most of his art is made from 80 % recycled materials. Using acrylic paint he creates rainsticks, tube drums and an instrument call a rhythm box. One of his styles is reverse painting on glass. His latest project is painting with light.

Serendipity Saori Studio Student Show
Karen Pardee & Students at Serendipity SAORI Studio
SAORI is a joyful, spontaneous form of weaving that emphasizes creativity and free expression. Founded in Japan by Misao Jo over 40 years ago, the Saori philosophy embraces the attitude that everyone can express oneself freely. There are no rules or samples to follow and no mistakes—only possibilities! Karen Pardee, owner of Serendipity SAORI Studio, has a BA in Fiber Arts. She teaches adult and children’s classes at local art and community centers and is an authorized SAORI studio and equipment dealer.

Throughout the month of April, the display case in our Adult/Teen area will play host to a collection of hand woven scarves created by members of the Syracuse Weavers Guild. Despite the warming temperatures, these brightly colored scarves are a welcome addition to our space (and besides… you never know when another bout of cold might sneak up on us!) Joyce Stokes Jones and her daughter Michele Jones Galvin, both great grandnieces of Underground Railroad leader Harriet Tubman, discuss their new book, Beyond the Underground: Aunt Harriet, Moses of Her People, a work of “creative non-fiction.” In presenting their work, they will talk about their family’s history, answer questions from the audience, and sign copies of the book.
