NAACP Annual Address & Voting Rights Rally Thursday, February 24 (It’s Virtual)

The Syracuse/Onondaga County NAACP invites you to their annual event on Thursday (It’s virtual). The NAACP Annual Address & Voting Rights Rally is a program of the local chapter, with President Bishop Collette Matthews-Carter presiding. The evening features an array of participants; Official greetings from elected officials including; Onondaga County Executive J. Ryan McMahon; Common Council President Helen Hudson; Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh; Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens; and Onondaga County Legislator Charles Garland.

Representatives from community-based organizations and churches are included in this Annual Address to NAACP membership and the general public; Angela Douglas, Co-Executive Director Vera House; Rev. Twiggy Eure, Co-Pastor Promised Land Church; Sydni Eure, musical performance; Bishop H. Bernard Alex, President National Action Network; Rev. Eric Jackson, President Alliance of Communities Transforming Syracuse and Rev. Eric Eure, President Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance.

Special guests include Members of the NAACP Executive Board presenting; Van Robinson, Chair, Civic Engagement Committee and Linda-Brown Robinson, NYS Conference Western Regional Director & Chair, Fund Development Committee.

Join us for a two-part workshop with exhibiting artist Sofía Luz Pérez and Syracuse artist Cayetano Valenzuela. In this workshop, Cayetano Valenzuela and Sofía Luz Pérez will share their own practices and processes in making a portrait/self-portrait and ask participants to create a portrait or self-portrait. The emphasis of the portrait should be on identity and cultural background/ancestry, but they encourage everyone to delve into any part of themselves or the person they are drawn to portraying. This is a free workshop with limited space available. We ask that you attend both sessions. Art supplies will be provided and you are welcome to also bring your own.
