According to Syracuse Police, on Monday, December 11th, 2023, at around 12:55 A.M., a Syracuse Police Officer was on patrol in the area of W. Bear Street and Liberty Street. While turning onto Liberty Street, the Officer collided with a male riding a VEO electric bicycle.
After the collision, the Officer(s) began first aid to the electric bicycle driver, and an ambulance was called to the scene. The driver of the bike was transported to Upstate Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The Syracuse Police Department’s Traffic Section responded to the scene and is investigating the crash.
Per department protocol and state law, the New York State Attorney General’s Office has been notified as part of this investigation. The Officer involved in this incident has been placed on paid administrative leave per department protocol. The investigation is ongoing.
