DEPARTMENT: Finance, Central New York Regional Transportation Authority
STARTING SALARY: Grade 5 – $52,686 to $58,887
Note: Starting salary is determined by evaluation of experience and qualifications for the position and will be set at some point between this range.
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for Accounts Payable transactions, journal entries, and other departmental tasks as assigned.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Thoroughly examine all invoices to ensure they have the required documentation and approvals.
- Utilize our financial software to match purchase order receipts with invoices.
- Notify storeroom and procurement teams about any issues or concerns related to receipts and purchases.
- Serve as a liaison between Accounting, Procurement, and the Storeroom.
- Monitor monthly inventory variances. Report any issues to the VP and AVP of Finance.
- Handle various weekly and monthly journal entries.
- Complete various monthly and year-end account reconciliations.
- Keep the employee uniform account reconciliation current by collaborating with purchasing and operations to address issues or potential write-offs.
- Review and confirm the proper approval of all credit card purchases and record the expenses in the financial software.
- Generate checks on a weekly basis, match them with voucher packages, obtain necessary signatures, and distribute checks as required.
- Utilize banking and financial software to research outstanding checks. Along with voiding and reissuing checks when necessary.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation and files in compliance with company policies and accepted accounting standards.
- Address inquiries from vendors and nurture positive relationships with them.
- Act as a backup for any accounting staff when required.
- Execute other special projects as assigned by the Manager of Accounting and AVP of Finance.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required, with 2 to 4 years’ experience preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards and pronouncements.
- Strong ethical awareness and a deep understanding of ethical requirements as they pertain to accounting functions.
- Proficiency in the principles and practices of accounting.
- Knowledge and thorough understanding of internal control principles and practices.
- Familiarity with transportation industry standards and practices.
- Skill in planning and organizing work independently.
- Skill in entering data accurately.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
