Major Theft of Firearms from Multiple Central NY Locations

Syracuse, N.Y. — The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), in conjunction with the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms industry, is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the theft of firearms from MD Arms, McLain’s Sporting Goods, Denver’s Firearms, AJ Archery, all federal firearms licensees.

•              AJ Archery, located 3938 Nelson Heights, Cazenovia, NY 13035, was burglarized on Aug. 16, 2024. Individuals forced entry and stole a total of 24 firearms. ATF Special Agents from the Syracuse Field Office and Madison County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.

“In a country plagued with shootings, every stolen gun has the potential to create victims of violent gun crime,” said ATF NY Acting Special Agent in Charge, Tommy Kalogiros. “Federal Firearms Licensees are the first line of defense in stopping the flow of firearms into the hands of those who would use them to commit crimes and threaten the safety of our communities.  ATF is committed to working with our law enforcement partners to apprehend the suspects responsible for these burglaries and to stop the cycle of violence.”

ATF is offering a reward of up to $2,500, which will be matched by NSSF for a total reward of up to $5,000. This reward is part of a larger national cooperative initiative between ATF and NSSF in which NSSF matches ATF’s reward in cases involving the theft of firearms from federally licensed firearms retailers.

Anyone with information regarding these crimes should contact ATF at 888-ATF-TIPS (888-283-8477), email ATFTips@atf.gov, submit an anonymous tip through the “ReportIt” app (available from Google Play and the Apple App Store) or by visiting www.reportit.com.

ATF is the federal law enforcement agency with jurisdiction for investigating federal firearms licensee thefts. More information about ATF and its programs is available at www.atf.gov and follow the New York Field Division on Twitter @ATF New York
