Slapstick humor and a live dog on stage!
Following a successful run of “Hamlet”, Syracuse Shakespeare-In-The-Park goes to the lighter side with “The Two Gentlemen of Verona”, in Thornden Park’s Amphitheater, August 2-4/9-11.
The play’s director and Shakespeare-In-The-Park’s Producing Artistic Director, Dan Stevens, refers to “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” as a “16th century rom-com”. It is about two friends, Proteus and Valentine, who fall in love with the same woman, Silvia. Proteus betrays his girlfriend Julia and his friend Valentine to pursue Silvia, who prefers Valentine.“The play deals with themes of friendship and infidelity, the conflict between friendship and love, and the foolish behavior of people in love,” Stevens said.
Both adults and children alike, according to Stevens, should enjoy “this classic physical comedy, with lots of slapstick and the antics of a live dog on stage.” Featured in the cast is WCNY radio on-air personality Bruce Paulsen who portrays the Duke of Milan.
