The New York State Department of Transportation is alerting motorists that Interstate 81 will be reduced to one lane in the City of Syracuse and in the Town of Cicero from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning Monday, July 15, through Friday, July 19, to facilitate overhead sign inspections.
- I-81 southbound will be reduced to one lane between Exit 21 (Spencer Street/Catawba Street) and Exit 18 (Harrison Street/Adams Street) in the City of Syracuse, Onondaga County
- I-81 northbound will be reduced to one lane between Exit 20 (Franklin Street/West Street) and Exit 22 (Court Street) and between Exit 29S (I-481 South/DeWitt) and Exit 29N (State Route 481 North/Oswego) in the Town of Cicero, Onondaga County
Construction activities are weather-dependent and subject to change based on conditions.
Drivers are asked to use caution when traveling through the work zone area and pay attention to all traffic control devices, including signs and flaggers.
Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in work zones. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.
