SPD Release Information Regarding the Sidney Comrie Homicide Investigation​

On June 24, 2024, around 8:22 p.m., Syracuse Police Officers were dispatched to 184 W. Calthrop Ave. in regards to a fight complaint. More information was provided, describing shots being fired, accompanied by a four round Shot Spotter activation for the area. Officers arrived and located the victim,42-year-old, Sidney Comrie, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers on scene rendered life-saving medical aid to Comrie. Comrie was transported to Upstate Hospital by AMR. Further life-saving medical treatment was provided by Upstate medical staff, however Comrie succumbed to his injuries.    

An investigation was begun June 24, 2024, by CID and Homicide Unit detectives where numerous people were interviewed, and an extensive neighborhood and citywide canvass was conducted. In addition, several search warrants were executed, and evidence recovered was processed and thoroughly analyzed.

As a result of the above efforts, a suspect was identified as 32-year-old Dashontay Kirkland.

On June 27, 2024, Kirkland turned himself in to the Homicide Unit at the Public Safety Building. He was later lodged at the Onondaga County Justice Center, where he is being held pending his arraignment.

Dashontay Kirkland was charged with the following crimes: 

Penal Law 125.25, Murder 2nd
Penal Law 265.03, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd
