Now Hiring: The Great New York State Fair Seeking Candidates to Fill Hundreds of Positions During 13-Day Fair

NYS Fair Main Gate

The Great New York State Fair, a division of the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, is actively seeking candidates for temporary positions during the 13-day Fair.

In total, hundreds of positions are needed to help staff 13 days of The Great New York State Fair, which begins Wednesday, August 21 and continues through Labor Day, Monday, September 2. Currently, applicants are needed to help fill roles throughout The Fair in various departments including working in agriculture buildings, guest relations representatives, ticket takers, safety and security guards, tram conductors and drivers, and more. Brief descriptions of all open roles are provided in the application on The Fair’s website

“Each year, we’re so grateful to have several hundred community members step up to help our team throw one of the biggest events in New York State,” said Interim Fair Director Julie LaFave. “From staffing the Great Potato Booth and answering visitors’ questions in Guest Relations to security and tram driver roles, there’s no way it would all come together without these incredibly important roles. Our staff’s hard work and dedication is a huge part of what makes The Fair a success year-in and year-out.”

While the positions are designed for the 13-day run of The Fair, work hours, rate of pay, and duration of employment varies per assignment, and certain positions may be required to start before opening day of The Fair. Candidates interested in any of the open positions are encouraged to complete an online application, which is accessible at The Great New York State Fair’s website. Prospective applicants with questions should reach out to New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Human Resources at HarvestYourPotential@agriculture.ny.gov.

In addition, separate from employment through The Fair, opportunities with grounds and cleaning through Green Event Ninjas and KleenTeem will be posted to The Fair’s website as they become available. Positions are available for a variety of roles and shifts, including daytime, evening, and overnight with employment dates running from August 17-September 6, 2024.

Founded in 1841, The Great New York State Fair showcases the best of New York agriculture, provides top-quality entertainment and is a key piece of the State’s CNY Rising strategy, which focuses on growing Central New York’s economy through tourism.

The New York State Fairgrounds is a 375-acre exhibit and entertainment complex that operates all year. Audiences are encouraged to learn more about The Great New York State Fair online, and follow the fun through photos on Flickr, as well as by engaging with The Fair on social media via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
