On Friday, December 15th, 2023, at around 9:37 A.M., a Syracuse Police Officer working the Rescue Mission detail, off-duty, on-viewed a shooting with injuries in the 100 block of Dickerson Street. The Officer observed a male shoot a female at the incident location. The female victim is also pregnant. After the shooting, the male suspect fled the scene.
The adult male suspect in this incident is identified as 34-year-old David Kirby III. Kirby was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. The female victim, 26, remains in critical condition along with the child.
The Officer gave chase and apprehended the male near the intersection of Clinton Street and W. Onondaga Street. The suspect was transported to an area hospital for an evaluation. The shooting victim was transported to Upstate Hospital in critical condition.
Several blocks surrounding Dickerson Street, Clinton Street, and W. Onondaga Street were closed for an extended period of time as the scene was processed.
