June 24th, 2022, at approximately 1:45 P.M.: Syracuse Police Officers responded to the 1400 block of Midland Avenue for a shooting with injuries call. Upon arrival, Officers located a male victim, identified as Remir Martin, 22 years old, who was unconscious in a vehicle that had crashed into a tree.
It was evident that Martin had been shot. Martin was transported to Upstate Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A second victim, identified as Radamez Stackhouse, was also located at the scene with a gunshot wound to his leg. His injury was non-life threatening.
An investigation was immediately commenced by CID Detectives, during the course of which numerous people were interviewed, and an extensive neighborhood canvass was conducted. Physical evidence relative to the incident was collected, and search warrants were executed.
As a result of the above efforts, a suspect in this investigation was identified as Dametrius Pettiford, 20 years old, he resides in Syracuse, NY.
On February 7th, 2023, Pettiford was taken into custody by Syracuse PD Homicide Detectives without incident at 181 W. Ostrander Ave. He was transported to CID and charged with Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. Pettiford is currently lodged at the Justice Center.
