This Week’s Thursday Morning Roundtable: What’s the Latest on I-81?

Interstate 81

Syracuse, N.Y. – Mark Frechette, director of the New York State Department of Transportation’s I-81 Viaduct Project, will discuss the project’s latest plans and impact during a Zoom public forum from 8 to 9 a.m. Thursday hosted by Syracuse University’s Thursday Morning Roundtable.

NYSDOT is proposing to tear down a portion of I-81 that runs between downtown and the University Hill area, rerouting highway traffic around the city and onto a larger Interstate 481. A section of Interstate 690 in the heart of the city would also be rebuilt.

For more information about these plans, visit NYSDOT’s I-81 Viaduct Project webpage.

Now in its 56th season, Thursday Morning Roundtable features speakers who discuss current topics in Central New York and beyond. Following the forum, residents can use the chat function to ask questions and Emily Langan, community engagement coordinator for Syracuse University’s Office of Community Engagement, will moderate the Q&A session.
