Independent Candidate Walsh Has Raised Over $250,000 To Date
Syracuse, NY, July 19, 2017–Ben Walsh, an independent candidate running for Mayor for the city of Syracuse, released his second period financial disclosure report, announcing he has raised over a quarter million dollars to date.
Walsh’s campaign has raised $253,217.23 to fund his efforts to secure the office of Mayor of Syracuse.
“I am an independent leader with a deep passion for this city, and my independent message is resonating with people across political, socioeconomic and geographic spectrums” said Walsh. He continued, “From neighbors to business owners, Sedgwick to the Southside, registered Republicans to Democrats and those unaffiliated with a party – these people have chosen to support my campaign. And, I am honored.”
As an independent candidate, his fundraising activity has been noteworthy, and not only because of the total numbers of donors and funds raised. Contributions have been made from Democrats, Republicans, and Independent voters. Between January 14 – July 13, 2017, the Walsh campaign raised $123,629.23, from 402 separate donations. Over 60% of these donations are under $200, and 80% are below $500.
“We’re proud to see citizens from diverse economic backgrounds believe in Ben’s vision of Syracuse Rising Above, and voicing their support with their hard-earned income” said Kristy Brightman Frame, Walsh’s campaign manager. According to Frame, he’s kept the majority of his campaign expenditures in the Syracuse market, rare when compared to candidates relying on major party donations, which often come from other areas.
Walsh has over 16 years of experience in the public, private, and non-profit sectors, and played a lead role in many transformational projects in Syracuse’s recent history. Ben currently serves as the president of the Board of Trustees at The Gifford Foundation and also serves on the Board of Directors at the Downtown Committee of Syracuse, Inc., Good Life Philanthropic Youth Foundation, and the Landmark Theatre. In 2009 he was named one of Syracuse’s 40 Under FORTY winners, an award recognizing Central New York professionals and leaders under the age of 40 who exemplify leadership in the community.
