Congressional Black Caucus PAC Endorses John Mannion for Congress In NY-22

The Congressional Black Caucus PAC is endorsing John Mannion because of his commitment to racial inequality and an equitable America.  Syracuse, NY – On Monday August 19th, Senator John Mannion was endorsed by the Congressional Black Caucus PAC (CBC PAC) in the race for NY-22. The CBC PAC supports candidates who will serve their constituents with integrity and who will advance the issues of the diverse communities in their district.  “The CBC PAC proudly endorses State Senator John Mannion in NY-22 because he shares our values and our vision for an America built on equal justice, opportunity, safety, and affordability,” said Chairman Gregory Meeks (NY-5.) “As a lifelong teacher and resident of his district, John Mannion understands the needs of Central New York and the Mohawk Valley and has an impressive record of fighting for better jobs, a cleaner environment, and a woman’s right to choose. In Congress, Senator Mannion will be a strong voice for all of those he represents. We are committed to helping him flip this seat and control of the House of Representatives – and together we can restore sanity and integrity to Washington, D.C.” “I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Congressional Black Caucus PAC, a group that tirelessly advocates for a more equal and just America,” said Senator John Mannon. “I am proud of my record in the NY State Senate of fighting and voting for legislation that uplifts our Black communities, such as supporting the I-81 redevelopment project, working to expand childcare, and supporting the New York State Working Families Tax Credit. In Congress, I will continue to amplify the voices in our diverse community to best represent all of NY-22.” The CBC PAC works to elect Black Members of Congress and to elect allies and champions of the Black community. Additionally, the CBC PAC mobilizes voters and volunteers in underrepresented communities to become engaged in the political process. Every cycle, the CBC PAC seeks to elect members that will fight for economic prosperity for all Americans, expansion of the middle class, and bipartisan efforts to deliver for everyday Americans.  New York’s 22nd Congressional District is one of the most flippable seats in the country. National Journal lists Brandon Williams as the most vulnerable House Republican in the country. Cook Political Report rates this race “Lean Democrat” and Inside Elections rates it “Tilt Democratic.”  John Mannion, a lifelong Central New Yorker and grandson of Irish immigrants, brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his candidacy. With nearly three decades of teaching experience in the public school system, Mannion has consistently advocated for students and educators alike. John Mannion and his wife, Jennifer, are proud residents of Geddes, New York, where they raised their three children, two in college and one recently graduated. Mannion’s dedication to public service and unwavering commitment to the betterment of Central New York make him a compelling choice for the NY-22 Congressional seat. YWCA Third Annual Block Party for Eliminating Racism

Friday, August 23, outside of 401 Douglas St, Syracuse, NY   Syracuse, NY, August 23 – The YWCA of Syracuse and Onondaga County, Inc. will host the Third Annual Block Party for Eliminating Racism on Friday, August 23, 2024. The goal of the event is to bring together residents of the Syracuse Northside, community partners and stakeholders to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the YWCA’s multicultural neighborhood.    “At the YWCA of Syracuse and Onondaga County, we believe it is important to collectively recognize and embrace diversity,” says YWCA Deputy Executive Director Wenona Timmons. “When left unchecked, racism can lead to social and economic exclusion, violence, and systematic oppression and neighborhood segregation of communities of color. Syracuse is a vibrant, thriving community because of our culture, ethnicities, experiences, and perspectives. We are excited to bring everyone together on August 23rd to continue creating a healthy community transformed by racial and gender equity, equal access to opportunity, and social justice for all people.”   This free event will supplement the YWCA’s existing work to eliminate racism in Central New York by connecting the community through food, vendors, music, community resources and activities for kids. The YWCA community event will take place outside the main office, Zonta House, on the 400 block of Douglas Street and the 300 block of Graves Street in Syracuse’s northside. The blocks will temporarily be shut down for the event.   The public is invited to attend the block party, which will run from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Food will start being served at 3:30 p.m. and will include hamburgers and hotdogs.  In addition to a free meal, there will be youth activities, games that include prizes, and tables hosted by community organizations and vendors. This event will include inspirational messages from YWCA Executive Director Fanny Villarreal and the Call to Action by the Chair, Board of Director Lekia Hill.
