Sweet Treat Takes Over Saturday Market

Saturday, August 3, 2024 Syracuse, New York –The Auburn Market was buzzing on Saturday with a Finger Lakes Sweet Treat Trail Takeover of the Saturday Auburn Market at the New York State Equal Rights Heritage Center. Local businesses are known to showcase their products on the large outdoor public space of the New York State Equal Rights Heritage Center and today, they made room for some of the businesses on the Sweet Treat Trail. Mary Pigeon, owner of Believe Bakery, has been in business for about a year and was excited to display her exclusively gluten-free baked products. “This was a great opportunity to get my product out to the community and spread awareness,” said Pigeon. “I’ve been in business for about a year, and now I’m making some good traction. The Sweet Treats Trail has been amazing.” Marissa Hall, owner of Simply Delicious, specializes in German Cutout Cookies, which she said is a mild version of sugar cookies, and has also been in business for a little more than 12 months. Hall said the Sweet Treat Trail is a unique way to promote the region and add to the other known trails (wine, cheese).   “Click” on image to enlarge. “The trail helps people find out about what we offer locally around the county and I think it connects people to something a little bit different and you wouldn’t think that you could find baked goods on a trail,” said Hall. The Cayuga County Tourism Office introduced the Sweet Treat Trail XX years ago as a fun new way to promote agriculture to families. “We are known for our adult beverage trails in the Finger Lakes but so often we get requests to highlight our family-friendly locations and activities, and this Trail makes it fun and sweet for people of all ages,” said Tour Cayuga Executive Director Karen Kühl. “The trail also gives us a new platform to express the importance of agriculture as it features not only baked goods but delicious local fruits as well. We want to educate as well as entertain.” The award-winning Finger Lakes Sweet Treat Trail lays out all of Cayuga County’s top-tier, locally sourced “sweet stops,” making it easy for visitors and residents to find a fun summer treat. The trail features 15 brick-and-mortar stores, restaurants, and cafes, offering a full range of sweet selections. In addition, there are also five professional, licensed, home bakers whose goods are often featured in farm markets and other stores throughout the county Sweet Treat Trail Partners: Complimentary light samples were provided in addition to the treats that were available for purchase. About Tour Cayuga –The Cayuga County Office Convention and Visitors Bureau Inc. was established in 1995 as Cayuga County’s official tourism promotion agency. Our mission is to promote, support, and increase tourism, thereby stimulating economic growth and improving the quality of life for area residents.

Voices: Utica Activists Stage Banner Drop Protesting Congressman Brandon Williams’ Failure to Advocate for Central New Yorkers

Congressman Williams has consistently shown a lack of understanding of the issues affecting Central New Yorkers and has failed to effectively advocate for their needs. Utica, NY – On Wednesday, August 7, members of Citizen Action, Empire State Voices and community advocates from across New York’s 22nd Congressional District will gather in Utica to drop a banner to draw attention to Congressman Brandon Williams’ ongoing failure to address the pressing issues affecting Central New Yorkers.  Despite repeated calls for action, Congressman Williams has voted against the interests of working families in his district, choosing instead to prioritize the interests of big corporations and the MAGA agenda. The protest seeks to hold Congressman Williams accountable for his inaction and demand that he take meaningful steps to support the needs of his constituents. County Executive McMahon Announces Applications Now Being Accepted for Onondaga County Hotel Initiative

Funding awards will be made on a rolling basis Syracuse, N.Y. –On August 6th, County Executive J. Ryan McMahon, II announced applications for The Onondaga County Hotel Initiative are now being accepted. Tourism and convention business have served as a key driver of revenue and growth with respect to the local economy. Key to that success has been an abundance of diverse and quality hotel rooms and meeting space. In recent years, we have seen a significant number of hotels come offline and subsequently jeopardize our ability to attract new convention business or accommodate visitors and tourists to the area. Further compounding the issue are the massive investments being made by Micron at the White Pine Commerce Park as well as the numerous supply chain companies expected to follow suit. The Onondaga County Hotel Initiative will be seeded with $4,000,000 and award grants ranging from $50,000 to $750,000 to developers to assist in closing funding gaps in new hotel construction and/or incentivize existing hotels to add rooms to their current hotel stock in Onondaga County. Criteria will be established to grade each proposal including, but not limited to, size of hotel, how quickly it will come online and jobs created. Onondaga County Community Development will operate the Onondaga County Hotel Initiative and funding awards will be made on a rolling basis. More information can be found here: http://ongov.net/cd/hotel-initiative.html or contact Marty Skahen, Director of Community Development, at martinskahen@ongv.net or 315-435-3558 Image by StockSnap from Pixabay
