Ten (10) students have been selected for paid internships at Micron this summer. The students selected range from high school-aged to graduates of four-year colleges. OCC is also collaborating with area high schools on a plan to offer some Electromechanical Technology courses in high schools beginning this fall. As previously announced, The Micron Cleanroom Simulation Lab is under construction on campus. It’s being built in the Whitney Applied Technology Center. It was designed by Ashley McGraw Architects, the General Contractor is PAC Construction, and the electrician is Patricia Electric. The facility will be complete in 2025. The project is funded by $5 million each from Micron, Onondaga County, and New York State. During 2023, OCC hosted Micron-sponsored Girls Going Tech, Chip Camp, and Girls Going Tech Espanol. Similar events are being planned for 2024. In addition to the aforementioned, the college is currently working on a 5-week long Semiconductor Summer Program which would give students the opportunity to earn college credits in Electromechanical Technology. The program would be for recent high school graduates, or high school students entering the 11th or 12th grades. According to OCC President Dr. Warren Hilton, “Since the President of the United States visited our campus in October of 2022, our faculty and staff have worked tirelessly to take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity.
