Feed The Hungry Day of Service & School Supply Giveaway-Local Church to Provide Free Brunch and School Supplies

Syracuse, NY (August 17, 2023) – The members of Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church will hold their annual Day of Service event to offer a free warm brunch and school supplies to the community this weekend. Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church, 317 East Jefferson St., Syracuse Saturday, August 19th12PM – 2PM “As a missionary church and residents of this great city, it is our responsibility to help out our neighbors and their children,” said Youth Director Sandy Sims. “We all fall on hard times and working together as a community to help each other is what it’s all about.” Prior to the giveaway, church members will be visiting local shelters, housing programs, and school programs, to invite anyone looking for a free meal and/or school supplies to join them this Saturday. Disposable containers will be available for anyone looking to get their food to-go. “We usually have a pretty good turnout. We invite anyone to come and grab a plate – whether they had a meal two days ago, or that day – everyone is welcome.” Brunch menu items will feature fried fish, ham, sausage, salmon patties, pancakes, waffles, grits, fruit, and pastries, eggs, juice, water, and coffee. Sims said the church plans to provide for families that may not have the funds to purchase what will be needed for school. The school supplies will be offered to children of all ages and will include book bags, notebooks, pencils, crayons, and more. For over 10 years, the Prince of Peace members have lived up to the Mission in their church’s name – offering free services, meals, fresh produce from the church food pantry, clothing, school supplies, and even toys for Christmas. In fact, last year, the church, in collaboration with the Sims Foundation, introduced its first Harvest Festival and Trunk or Treat event at Kirk Park. Both organizations have plans to organize the second Harvest Festival again this fall. “If there is a need, we will do our best to help, just as 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 states ‘Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver,’” said Sims. Walmart and Price Chopper have both made donations toward Saturday’s Day of Service.
