Micron to Host Open House at North Syracuse Junior High School to Discuss Environmental Review Process and Seek Community Input

Micron welcomes the public to attend an Open House to learn more about the upcoming environmental review process for the company’s planned New York megafab. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with project staff to ask questions about the megafab’s progress and Micron’s community commitments. The next step before building the planned megafab is completing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA). The event will kick off with opening remarks from Micron, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and officials from Onondaga County and Town of Clay. Following a project overview presentation from Micron, the public will have an opportunity to engage directly with Micron staff at various booths and discuss a range of topics and issues. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will also be available to discuss its program. Micron is committed to engaging the community in conversations that will help inform the project as it progresses. We look forward to hosting this event and keeping the Central New York Community engaged and informed about this historic investment. Crouse Sets Standard for Robotic Surgery in Central New York: 15,000 Procedures Performed Since 2008

Pictured L-R: Seth Kronenberg, MD, CEO; Jill Hauswirth, director surgical services; surgeon Ben Sadowitz, MD; Lisa Miller, robotics team leader; surgeon Mary Cunningham, MD; surgeon Doug Bunn, MD. Drs. Bunn and Cunningham, in 2008, were the first two surgeons at Crouse to use the da Vinci technology. Syracuse, NY — Crouse Health has reached a rare milestone in the field of minimally invasive surgery – 15,000 robotic-assisted procedures performed since the launch of the program in 2008. Since that time the robotics program at Crouse has expanded to include eight robotic systems, with seven da Vinci XI systems and the latest addition of a da Vinci Single Port (SP) system, the only one in Central New York. The program’s 27 surgeons provide the procedures and technology that support a variety of medical conditions in a wide range of specialty areas, including general, bariatric, colorectal, thoracic surgery, GYN oncology, gynecology and urology. “Our surgeons have been pioneers in robotic-assisted surgery for 15 years. This achievement highlights Crouse’s regional leadership in minimally invasive robotic surgery and reflects our dedication to improving the lives of patients through leading-edge technology,” says Crouse President and CEO Seth Kronenberg, MD, speaking at a recent celebration for the robotics team. The da Vinci surgical system integrates robotics and extremely sophisticated computer technology with the skills of the surgeon. The system allows surgeons to see and move in three dimensions, giving them the ability to perform delicate operations with greater precision but requiring only tiny surgical openings. By avoiding the large incisions of open surgery, this computer-assisted micro-surgery helps avoid many post-surgical complications while shortening patient recovery time. “We’re proud of the program we have built in collaboration with many of the region’s top surgeons and look forward to utilizing this innovative technology to continue to improve patient outcomes,” says Dr. Kronenberg.

Syracuse Housing Authority 3rd Annual $10K Tournament

Syracuse, New York – SHA’s $10K Youth Basketball tournament returns TODAY, starting at 10am at Wilson Park! The Girls’ tournament kicks off the start of the annual $10K Tournament with round-robin games and concludes with their championship game on 07/29/2023! The Boys’ Tournaments will occur next weekend, with the 13-15 age group on 07/29 and the 16-20 age group on 07/30. The SHA tournament’s intention is to provide youth at risk of perpetrating or being victims of community and gun violence an opportunity to create positive and healthy connections with adults throughout our city. SHA hopes to use this event as a catalyst initiative to prevent youth violence and exemplify alternative pathways to destructive behavior, and we are proud to say that none of the youth participants involved in our tournament for the last 3 years have fallen victim to community gun violence! Like past years, throughout the tournament, SHA will facilitate a positive connection with adults within our community and aim to bridge the gap between law enforcement, first responders, and connect participants with different community groups and organizations. SHA invites the community to come out and enjoy a fun-filled day of healthy competition, free food, and good family times! A few of this year’s sponsors include Upstate Medical University, TAG Associates, Inc., OneGroup, C&S Companies, Home HeadQuarters, Pepsi, JMA Wireless, Empower FCU, Brown & Brown, CenTrio, and more! An extra special thank you to their Elite MVP Sponsor, SERVPRO of SW Onondaga County Team Luzzi, for their generous donation of $10K! Pixabay Photo
