The Syracuse Chapter of Gospel Music Workshop of America – Summer Enrichment and Affordable Community Projects!

ENROLL NOW! Space is limited! Youth and adult levels. This program is on-going. Summer sessions are more involved, but may continue upon request. Kinder-music sessions are available for early childhood according to age and readiness. Subjects include movement, piano, singing, performance techniques, vocal coaching, gospel music techniques, and more. Music lessons are available! SOME FEES MAY APPLY! Affordable Community Projects! Get Involved! -JHMN provides workshops to enhance your church’s music department. These sessions may be coordinated with your church’s music staff to develop ways and means of growing your ministry. Church music handbooks can be developed with guidelines that apply to individual programs. Workshop topics include Choir Decorum, Music for the calendar year, new music packets, qualifications for music personnel, vocal techniques and MUCH MORE! “Stir up the Gift” (free training) Project -Building positive neighborhoods through talent show cases. This project is partially funded by CNY Arts. These are young fledging experience to be developed or further exposed through opportunities to perform. The concentration areas are vocal performance and dance. Location for the session, time, and other information will be given upon inquiry. The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Harriet Tubman Projects (to be announced) *no fee* These projects have been on-going. They include partnerships with churches, after school, summer school participants with an interdisciplinary approach across the curriculum (reading, math, social studies, etc.) Essay competitions and critical thinking will be scheduled. Latest book, “Gospel Music: An African American Art Form” by Dr. Joan HIllsman, is still available through www.Friesenpress.com or call (315) 299-4928 Casting for Christmas Cantata, “ The Birthday of the King” by Dr. Joan Hillsman, adapted from the scriptures, are beginning. If you would like to try out for a part in this exciting cantata, contact Dr.Hillsman. Castings begins now! The play will be scheduled for December. Further information is to come. The Syracuse Chapter of Gospel Music Workshop of America (SGMWA), will present a fashion show and are looking for models/participants. The fashion show event is scheduled for Saturday, August 6,2016 from 2:00PM-5:30PM.REFRESHMENTS, FUN, ENTERTAINMENT AND MORE!!! Redhouse Summer Shows presents Wizard of Oz and Bring it On – In Repetition, Shows Open Next Week

The Red House Arts Center in Syracuse, NY presents two familiar and popular summer shows in an alternating schedule: Bring it On the Musical and The Wizard of Oz. Both productions feature a cast of professional actors along with child actors from the Redhouse Theatrical Institute. Performances run alternating days July 28th through August 13th. Take a journey over the rainbow with a family favorite,The Wizard of Oz. This adaptation of the Frank L. Baum Classic is sure to entertain audiences of all ages. Like so many girls her age, little Dorothy Gale of Kansas dreams of what lies over the rainbow. One day, a twister hits her farm and carries her to another world. Come join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion and Toto as they travel the universe of Dorothy’s imagination as she comes to the realization that there really is “no place like home”. Familiar music and songs include “Over the Rainbow”, “Munchkinland” (Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead) and “If Only I had a Brain/A Heart” and many more! The Wizard of Oz is sure to put a smile on everyone’s face. The energy will be at an all-time high as Redhouse also presents Bring it On, the Musical. Overflowing with upbeat music and kicked up dance moves, this musical features an inspirational storyline. Campbell is cheer royalty at Truman High School and her senior year should prove the most cheertastic! However, an unexpected redistricting has forced her to spend her senior year of high school at neighboring, hard knock Jackson High School. Despite her obstacles, she befriends the dance crew and forms a powerhouse squad for the ultimate competition: Nationals. Bitingly relevant, sprinkled with sass, and inspired by the hit film, Bring it On The Musical takes audiences on a high flying journey filled with friendship, jealousy, betrayal, and forgiveness. The Red House Arts Center’s The Wizard of Oz and Bring it On The Musical both boast casts of professional and local actors  along with students from the Summer Theatrical Institute. Many out of town favorites return to the Redhouse stage including Joan Anderson and (The Color Purple, Dreamgirls), Cole Smith (Into the Woods/Midsummer Night’s Dream, 13) and Amelia Miller. Other cast includes Cameron Walker, Mary Nickson, Robert Jackson, Marc Galvagno, and Greg Maddock. Theatrical Institute Students in lead roles include Sadie Fridley as Dorothy and Jared Dunn as The Cowardly Lion in Wizard of Oz and Morgan Robinson as Bridget in Bring it On The Musical. Redhouse’s productions of The Wizard of Oz and Bring it On the Musical run from July 28th – August 13th in Repertory. Tickets are $25 for Adults and $15 for Students.
