Meeting Brings Together Neighborhood Activists and Community Experts SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The City of Syracuse is encouraging residents to attend the Syracuse Neighborhood Action Conference (SNAC) this Saturday, November 7. The conference will be held at Nottingham High School, 3100 East Genesee Street, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is sponsored by the City of Syracuse, the Gifford Foundation, and the Central New York Community Foundation (CNYCF). “The SNAC conference is a great chance for leaders to learn the skills to become better advocates for their neighborhoods,” said Syracuse Mayor Stephanie A. Miner. “I encourage Syracusans to attend this conference to learn valuable organizing strategies and network with their fellow community activists.” “Workshops are taught by local leaders and community experts who volunteer their time,” said Sheena Solomon, Director of Neighborhood Initiatives at the Gifford Foundation. “Many are City residents who are eager to share knowledge and encourage folks to learn from one another.” This is the third time the conference has been held, with previous SNAC events being held in 2011 and 2013. This year, fifteen workshops will be presented on subjects ranging from navigating City government to financial literacy to citizen action and public speaking. To register, interested individuals should go to www.syrgov.net/SNAC, by calling the Gifford Foundation at (315) 474-2489, or by email at snacconference@gmail.com. The registration fee is $8 in advance and $10 at the door. A free continental breakfast and lunch are included.
