The works are primarily acrylics, but include a pastel and oil.   Onondaga County Central Library Project Will Make Over 40,000 Historic Records Freely Accessible Online In August, the Onondaga County Public Library and FamilySearch (online at FamilySearch.org), a nonprofit premier family history and records preservation organization, began  a joint initiative to digitally preserve 40,000 historic titles from the library’s collections and make them freely accessible online to patrons worldwide. Some of the titles are extremely rare—dating back to Colonial America. The materials will be a tremendous resource for anyone researching local history or genealogical roots from the region. The exhibition had three jurors: Mary Murray, the curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Munson-Williams Proctor Arts Institute; Debora Ryan, an independent curator whose more than two decades of museum experience include 13 years as the curator at the Everson Museum of Art; and Rose Viviano, ArtRage Gallery’s curator and director. Recent projects have addressed artificial intelligence, genetically modified food and alternative energy. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally at venues including the New York Hall of Science, Art Basel Miami, and Canon Communication Space, Beijing. In 2006-2007 she was granted a Fulbright Fellowship to pursue her project Alternative Alternative Energy in China, and she was the 2008 recipient of the Garry B. Upstate New York’s Biggest Party!

The 168th New York State Fair had something for everyone. Food, exhibitions, games and all of this takes place within 300 acres rides, games and entertainment ensconced in an agricultural wrapper. The nation’s first state fair opened in 1841 as an agricultural expo, and it remains focused on agriculture to this day. From showing prized livestock to picking the prize Apple Pie the New York State Fair becomes a city of 100,000 for each day its 12 day run. According to Richard Ball, Commissioner, New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets,” The Great New York State Fair is not just our state’s largest summer party. Its first and most important job is to be a showcase for the best products grown and produced in New York. This year thousands of fairgoers enjoyed new rides which by first assessment were a hit, with 63 rides, many of them never before seen at this Fair, and five super- spectacular rides, provided maximum thrills. The area, between the Center of Progress and the Art & Home Center, prepared great food not found elsewhere on the Fairgrounds, ethnic clothing and items for sale, and some of the best free entertainment you’ll find at the Fair, all while learning more about the cultures of the African Diaspora. Every year the New York State Fair becomes a more accurate representation of the diverse population of New York State.
