Syracuse Announces Weekly Roadwork Schedule June 9-June 15

City of Syracuse Releases Information for Week of June 9-June 15 SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The City of Syracuse released the following closures and delays for the week of June 9 through June 15. For more information, commuters can visit the City of Syracuse roadwork website, www.syrgov.net/roadwork. Regular updates will also be posted to City of Syracuse social media pages, including Facebook.com/Syracuse1848 and on Twitter @Syracuse1848. Erie Boulevard West Bridge over Onondaga Creek. This City project requires a full closure of Erie Boulevard West between Plum Street and Franklin Street. The West Street ramp up to Erie Boulevard West will remain open. The detour will be as described: Eastbound from Erie Boulevard: south to West Street via ramp, east on Fayette Street, north on Salina Street, west on Genesee Street, south on Clinton Street, west to Erie Boulevard. Westbound from Erie Boulevard: south on Franklin Street, west on Washington Street, north on West Street, ramp to Erie Boulevard. Connective Corridor-West Fayette Street Project. This City of Syracuse project will detour westbound traffic on Fayette Street at South Salina Street; north to Washington Street, west to Franklin Street, south to Walton Street and continue to West Fayette Street. Eastbound traffic will be maintained throughout. Connective Corridor-East Genesee Street Project. This project will detour westbound traffic on East Genesee Street between Townsend Street and State Street. Westbound traffic will be detoured at Townsend St. north to Fayette St., west to State St. and south back to East Genesee St intersection. Eastbound traffic will be maintained throughout. Erie Boulevard. East. This City led project will include lane reductions on Erie Boulevard. East between Beech St. and Teall Ave. The project is expected to be completed by Monday. West Street. This City led project will include lane reductions on West Street between W. Fayette St. and W. Onondaga St. East Fayette Street between Westmoreland Avenue and Genesee Park Drive. This City led project will include street closures by block. Traffic will be detoured around the block. Eastbound 690. This NYSDOT led project will include a full closure of eastbound 690 beginning Friday, June 13 and is expected to be completed by the morning of Thursday June 26. Eastbound I-690 will be closed to all traffic between Exit 11 (West Street) and the ramp from southbound I-81 to eastbound I-690. The entrance ramps from Geddes Street and northbound West Street to eastbound I-690 will be closed. The Onondaga Creekwalk will be closed. The following detours will be posted: For Eastbound I-690 thru traffic: Eastbound I-690 to Exit 9 (Bear Street). Continue north on Bear Street; right turn onto Genant Street; ramp to southbound I-81; ramp to eastbound I-690. For Northbound West Street to Eastbound I-690: Ramp to westbound I-690; exit at Geddes Street; right turn at bottom of ramp; left turn onto Pulaski Street; right turn onto Bear Street; right turn onto Genant Drive; ramp to southbound I-81; ramp to eastbound I-690. For the ramp from Geddes Street to eastbound I-690: Continue north on Geddes Street; left turn onto Pulaski Street; right turn onto Bear Street; right turn onto Genant Drive; ramp to southbound I-81; ramp to eastbound I-690. For the Creekwalk: North Franklin and Plum Streets. Drivers from the western suburbs should consider taking the NYS Thruway to Exit 34A (I-481), then use southbound I-481 to westbound I-690 to get into downtown or Syracuse’s east side.  Westcott Street. This City led project will include a road closure on Westcott Street between Dell Street and South Beech Street. Traffic will be detour around the block via Dell street and South Beech Street.

Engineers Recruit Apprentices

Constantia, NY (June 6, 2014) – The Upstate New York Engineers Training Fund, Local Union #545 (also doing business as Local Union #158, District #545), will conduct a recruitment from July 7, 2014 through July 18, 2014 for three operating engineer (heavy equipment operator) apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today. Please note that the three openings listed for apprentices represent the total number for five recruitment regions – the Central, Finger Lakes, Mohawk Valley, North Country, and Southern Tier regions. Applications must be completed in person, on site, at the Upstate NY Engineers Training Fund, District #545 training site, 814 County Route 23, Constantia, NY from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday during the recruitment period.  Applications will be available for 10 business days or until 35 applications have been submitted, whichever comes first. The Committee requires that applicants: Must be at least 18 years old.  Proof will be required after selection and prior to indenture. Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as GED or TASC).  Proof will be required after selection and prior to indenture. Must attest in writing that he/she is physically able to perform the work of an operating engineer, which includes: Lifting heavy objects. Working in confined spaces. Working with and/or operating hazardous machinery. Working in extremely dusty conditions. Working in extremely hot, cold, or wet weather. Working over water. Working at heights. Possible exposure to loud noises and respiratory irritants. Must pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture (apprentices may be subject to random drug testing at any time during their apprenticeship). Must reside within the jurisdiction of Local Union #545, which includes the counties of Cayuga, Cortland, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, St. Lawrence, Seneca, and Tompkins. Must have at least one year of trade-related experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license in order to operate company vehicles.  Proof will be required after selection and prior to indenture. Must have reliable transportation to and from various work sites and related instruction classes. Must provide military transfer or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture. For further information, applicants should contact their nearest New York State Department of Labor office or Local Union #545 at (585) 730-7329. Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
